Some young corners will be tested for the first time when Nebraska opens against Arkansas State. With Chris Jones sidelined with a knee injury sophomore Lamar Jackson slides into the number spot after appearing in all 13 games in 2016 as a true freshman.
“I am looking at this season totally different”, said Jackson. “I have got a bigger and more exciting role. I am more excited than nervous or cautious because I feel more comfortable with my defensive assignments.”
Sophomore Eric Lee and redshirt freshman Dicaprio Bootle are also expected to see extensive action in the opener and coach Mike Riley has been pleased with their progress.
“With the work our corners got this fall and the number of times they have been stretched and tested I have been really impressed”, said Riley. “These guys have talent and they have an awareness of what they are doing.”
