A new marketing campaign is promoting ethanol to Nebraska football fans.
Renewable Fuels Nebraska (RFN) is partnering with Husker IMG Sports Marketing to launch HuskerFuel.com. The effort is designed to raise awareness about E-15 produced here in Nebraska.
Pam Miller, RFN campaign chair, says the state is number two in production, but only fourth in use.
“We feel that there’s room for improvement there,” Miller tells Nebraska Radio Networ. “We want to make sure more people know about the benefits of using E-15.”
Those benefits, according to RFN, include cleaner burning fuel and a lower price compared to the more common E-10 blend.
“There are a lot more retailers who could offer E-15, so we’d like to have some requests, demands from the public to see more opportunities to buy E-15 across the whole state,” Miller says.
Ads will play in the stadium and on the radio, and HuskerFuel.com will offer giveaways and information.
“E-15 came out on the market around 2011,” Miller explains. “A couple years after that, the EPA did a study and showed that any vehicle, 2001 or newer, can run perfectly safe on E-15 – no engine damage, no engine check lights, virtually no loss of mileage.”
More than 30 retailers in Nebraska now offer E-15, which is produced at 25 plants in the state.
Along with fuel, Miller says the plants produce six million tons of distiller’s grains for livestock feed.
“Those are located all across the state,” she says. “The industry employs directly several hundred, up to a thousand, people across the state and a lot of indirect jobs are made available because of the ethanol industry.”
