A health alert remains in effect for Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County.
State officials report the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality detected elevated toxin levels produced by blue-green algal blooms at Bluestem Lake.
Swimming beaches at the lake have been closed. Swimming, wading, skiing, and jet skiing are all discouraged; anything that could involve submersion in the water. Pets also should stay out of the water.
Boating, fishing, and camping are allowed.
The state tests Nebraska lakes throughout the recreational season.
