Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County remains under a health alert as levels of toxic blue-green algal blooms remain high.
State officials have extended the health alert and warn not to swim in the lake or allow your pets to get into the water.
Water samples taken by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality this week continue to detect elevated toxin levels in the lake. Swimming beaches remain closed at Bluestem. Wading, skiing, jet skiing, similar activities are discouraged. Boating, fishing, and camping are allowed.
Bluestem must pass two consecutive weeks of testing for the health alert to be lifted.
NDEQ tests all Nebraska lakes during the recreational season weekly.
