Eighteen Nebraska Public Power District line technicians, two supervisors and a fleet technician along with 14 vehicles and associated equipment will leave today and head to Tampa to help with hurricane efforts. Corporate Media Supervisor Mark Becker says their goal is to support efforts to restore electrical power.
Becker says, “We will be assisting the Tampa Electric Utility to restore power caused by the hurricane. Our crews will be there Tuesday late in the afternoon and will start working on Wednesday.”
NPPD is part of the Midwest Mutual Aid organization that provides this kind of assistance. The mutual aid request came out last week asking for help. Becker says, “They asked who is available to support this kind of work and we put in and said we would have crews available. How many do you need?”
Becker says the employees who volunteered for duty are from South Sioux City, Ogallala, Bassett, Homer, McCook, Norfolk, O’Neill, Scottsbluff, Plattsmouth, Rushville, Tekamah and Lincoln. He says they are prepared to support in the restoration efforts for the next two weeks and will prepare for any additional support beyond that time if needed.
