When you have gone nearly an entire year without tasting victory any win is big and second-year Rutgers coach Chris Ash hopes Saturday’s 65-0 win over Morgan State provides momentum heading into the start of Big Ten play. The victory snapped an 11-game losing skid as the Scarlet Knights prepare for Saturday’s conference opener at Nebraska.
“To go in the locker room and celebrate like that was a big deal for those players”, said Ash. ” This season we are a different team and we are confident but we all know we need to go out on Saturdays on the field and get victories to build confidence.”
The quarterback combination of Kyle Bolin and Jonathan Lewis has helped the Rutgers offense average 195 yards of rushing in a 1-2 start to the season. Ash says a passing game averaging only 176 yards must make progress.
“We have to improve our pass game on first and second down”, added Ash “That has to happen. If we don’t have balance we are not going to win games.”
