A Winnebago man has been sentenced in federal court of failing to register as a sex offender after using a non-existent address in Iowa to register.
The United States Attorney’s office reports 32-year-old Duane Levering will have to serve two-and-a-half years in federal prison, then serve five years of supervised release under the sentence handed down by federal District Judge John Gerrard.
Levering served slightly more than seven years in prison for a 2005 conviction of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor. He served one-and-a-half additional years in prison after a 2013 conviction of failing to register as a sex offender.
In 2017, Levering registered as a sex offender at a non-existent address in Sioux City, Iowa. Authorities determined he actually was living in Winnebago, Nebraska. He had not registered as a sex offender either with the Winnebago Tribe or the State of Nebraska.
