Omaha police made two arrests in connection to a shooting death Monday near 40th and L Street.
Officers responded to a shooting at Bizarre Tobacco around 11 p.m. An employee told police that he fired a gun at two men who were trying to rob the business. 18 year old Jose Mario Velazquez was hit by gunfire, rushed to a hospital and later died.
The Omaha Police Homicide Unit made two arrests in connection to that robbery and shooting.
18 year old Louis Vargas Aguilar was arrested and booked for robbery. 18 year old York Rodriguez was arrested and booked for 1st degree murder. He faces that charge because he allegedly participated in a felony act where a person was killed. Authorities believe Aguilar was the driver of the get-away car.
The Douglas County Attorney’s Office continues to investigate the shooting but early indications show the employee will not face charges. The investigation continues.
