Nebraska coach Mike Riley has been through tough times before and plans to use that experience top help his team bounce back from a tumultuous week that began with a loss to Northern Illinois and saw the firing of athletic director Shawn Eichorst. With all the turmoil as a backdrop the Huskers open Big Ten play by hosting Rutgers.
“You know this is supposed to be fun and so I want to get them ready to play”, said Riley. “And it is only fun I found out when you win so we are trying ever way to do that.”
Riley feels the best way to do that is with a steady approach the keeps the focus on the field and the next opponent.
“Whatever is swirling out there it always swirls one way or the other and you need to remain steady”, added Riley. “Because your kids need to know who you are going to be everyday.”
Rutgers also enters conference play with a 1-2 record. Kickoff in Memorial Stadium is 2:30p.m. The game will be carried by the Big Ten Network.
