The latest GOP healthcare plan to replace Obamacare is basically dead. Three Republican senators plan to vote no leaving them one vote short of passage. Omaha Insurance Agent Art Jetter says there were good elements to this replacement plan.
Jetter says, “I think it would have been good for Nebraskans and Iowans as it would have brought control and financing home. Frankly, I have more faith in Nebraska lawmakers and regulators than the federal bureaucracies and Obamacare.”
So, what is next? Jetter says Senators Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray have a plan that would be a short term fix by putting more money into the system. That is an effort to urge more insurance companies to remain in the Marketplace. Jetter says, “That could be a short term fix or pouring more gasoline on the fire.”
Senators voting against the bill are concerned about the cuts to Medicaid and the ability for states to reduce protections for those with pre-existing conditions. Opponents say it would also lead to higher premiums and reduced coverage for millions of Americans.
