An early morning accident this past summer on the Thayer County fairgrounds which claimed the life of Norfolk country singer Abby Uecker has been deemed an accident. No criminal charges will be filed.
Thayer County Attorney Daniel Werner says that while Jason Lienemann of North Platte admitted to having had five to six beers the night before, an investigation conducted by his office in conjunction with the Nebraska State Patrol did not come up with enough evidence to justify filing criminal charges. Investigators don’t have an accurate measure of his blood-alcohol content at the time, according to Werner.
Lienemann says he had quit drinking hours before the accident July 23rd, which occurred at about 4:20am during the Thayer County Fair. Lienemann had four others in his utility vehicle when he began driving on the fairground dirt track. He made a slow turn on the track so someone could pick up a hat which had fallen. The vehicle tipped, pinning Uecker underneath.
Other riders lifted the vehicle off of her. Uecker was rushed to the Thayer County Hospital, but died about an hour later.
Uecker performed under the stage name of Abby Nicole. She had performed at the fair the previous two nights.
