A man has been run over and killed by a BNSF train near Waverly after apparently ignoring repeated warnings sounded by the crew.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports the man was waking east on the tracks early this afternoon as the train approached from behind. The crew of the train reported the train’s horn sounded many times, but the man kept walking, didn’t get out of the way, and was struck.
No identification has been released.
The incident happened near Waverly High School. Investigators continue to speak with witnesses and have yet to determine whether it was an accident, or the man intentionally failed to get out of the way.
