The Creighton men’s basketball team closes out exhibition play on Friday night by hosting UNC-Pembroke. The Jays opened exhibition play with a 96-67 win over UNO and coach Greg McDermott says there are a number of areas in which his team needs to improve.
“We are getting there”, said McDermott. “We have got to rebound the ball better but that will come and we just have got to make sure we are playing with the pace we want to play with.”
Guards Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas are the two returning starters from last year’s team that finished 25-10 and played in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in six years.
“It has been very rewarding to coach these young guys especially because they are hungry and they want to learn”, added McDermott. “That’s what makes coaching fun.”
UNC Pembroke went 24-8 last season and was 14-5 in league play to sweep the Peach Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Braves have been picked to win the league again this season.
