The former tribal council treasurer of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska has been placed on five years’ probation and ordered to pay $36,500 in restitution for stealing from the tribe’s gambling operations.
The United States Attorney’s Office reports 56-year-old Thomas Snowball will also have to serve 150 hours of community service.
According to federal prosecutors, Snowball began taking unauthorized disbursements from the WinnaVegas Casino and Resort in 2013 through gift certificates and a re-loadable debit card. Prosecutors say Snowball concealed his scheme from the Winnebago Gaming Commission, which oversees the operations of the casino and approves all financial transactions. Snowball continued to take money from the casino through September of 2014. In total, he took $36,500.
