The Creighton men’s basketball team opens the regular season on Friday night by hosting Yale. The game is the first of four contests that Creighton will play in during the 2017 Hall of Fame Classic, along with Sunday’s game against Alcorn State and games on November 20 against UCLA and November 21 against Baylor or Wisconsin that will be played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Yale returns three of its top four scorers from last year’s team that finished 18-11.
“It will be a good test because Yale is good”, said Creighton coach Greg McDermott. “They are very disciplined and have won a lot of games the past few years. They are not coming into a situation where they are going to be intimidated by anything we do so we are going to have to execute our stuff.”
McDermott says he likes the progress his young team has made heading into the opener. The Jays return two starters from last year’s team that finished 25-10 and tied for third in the BIG EAST standings.
“I think we have really improved as time has gone on”, added McDermott. “I have been really pleased with how this team has shared the basketball and how unselfish they have played. We have to be a team that is willing to make the extra pass and turn a good shot into a great shot.”
Tip-off at the CenturyLink Center is 8:00p.m.
