A 36-year-old Lincoln woman critically injured in a fall from a sports utility vehicle last week has been pronounced dead after her organs were donated.
Autumn Rodriquez Hernandez had been declared brain dead earlier. She was pronounced dead Sunday.
The Lincoln Police Department has charged her niece, 21-year-old Kacie Alatoree of Lincoln, with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury or death. That charge could be upgraded now that Hernandez has been declared dead.
According to police, Rodriquez Hernandez jumped into the SUV Alatoree was driving. Alatoree accelerated and began swerving left and right. Rodriguez Hernandez fell from the SUV and hit her head on a curb. She suffered a skull fracture.
Police say Rodriquez Hernandez had loaned the SUV to her niece three months ago. The SUV belonged to the boyfriend of Rodriquez Hernandez. Alatoree had refused to return it. Rodriquez Hernandez confronted Alatoree last Tuesday. Alatoree took off. Rodriquez Hernandez fell from the vehicle. Alatoree sped off.
