Victims of a fraud scheme involving Western Union wire transfers may apply for compensation from a $586 million fund.
The fund administered by the United States Department of Justice’s Victim Asset Recovery Program was established after a multi-state settlement which involved Nebraska.
Nebraskans might be eligible if they fell victim to scammers who used the Western Union service to defraud consumers between January 1st of 2004 to January 19th of this year.
Nebraskans who had reported to Western Union or the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office that they had been the victim of a scam might receive a claim form in the mail. Those who do not receive a claim form can access one at http://www.westernunionremission.com/ or call (844) 319-2124 for more information on how to file a claim.
All completed claims forms must be mailed back to the settlement administrator by February 12, 2018, according to the AG office.
