After a performance at Minnesota that defensive coordinator Bob Diaco termed “disgusting” The Nebraska defense must find a way to slow down a Heisman Trophy candidate in Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. The Huskers surrendered 409 yards of rushing in a 54-21 loss to the Gophers and now face what Diaco calls one of the best running backs the Big Ten has ever seen.
“Great speed, great vision and breaks tackles and makes you miss”, said Diaco. “What is fun to watch is his pass protection. He is an aggressive blocker and is the total package.”
Diaco says the Nittany Lion offense led by quarterback Trace McSorley has enough playmakers that teams need to be careful about loading up against Barkley.
“Oh, absolutely,” Diaco said. “You’ve watched that. We’re at a point in this development and have been before everything was, whatever you want to call it, hijacked, probably a good word, but before that any time you’re going to load up, you have got to feel that there is an aptitude to do the other piece, to eliminate the other piece.”
