In the aftermath of the horrific church shooting in Texas, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Black Police Officer’s Association of Omaha in hosting the free seminar, Securing Houses of Worship and Active Shooter Awareness/Response.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Captain Wayne Hudson says this a pro-active step in ensuring houses of worship are safe and secure.
Captain Hudson says, “Originally it was just going to be securing houses of worship. We received a lot of calls after the Texas incident on what churches and houses of worships should do if there is an active shooting. So, we incorporated using one of our lieutenants who teaches active shooter training to civilians into this training.”
This seminar is for church leaders, staff, security teams, greeters, ushers, faculty, teachers and all church members. It is also for sworn and non-sworn law enforcement and volunteers who want to be resources for places of worship.
The training will be held on December 14th at the Community Engagement Center located on the University of Nebraska – Omaha campus.
