Nebraska and Creighton will both serve as hosts of the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Big Ten champion Huskers are the seeded fifth and will open Friday afternoon by hosting America East champion Stony Brook. Florida State and Washington State collide in the other first round contest. Nebraska finished 19-1 to claim a second straight league title.
“They have really played great as a team”, said Nebraska coach John Cook. “To do what they have done over 10 weeks and not have bad nights and continue to believe through the whole thing is an incredible accomplishment.”
Creighton is seeded ninth and will open at home on Friday against Costal Carolina. It is the first time the Jays and coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth have served as host.
“It is exciting”, said Bernthal Booth. “We are trying to improve every single year and we are thrilled with the opportunity.”
Michigan State and Missouri State meet in the other first round contest in Omaha. Creighton is coming off its fourth-straight Big East title and will be making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, all in the last eight years.
