Governor Pete Ricketts, Lt. Governor Mike Foley, State Senator Dan Watermeier of Syracuse, representatives with the University of Nebraska – Lincoln Students for Life and other pro-life leaders gathered at the Bethlehem House at 2301 S. 15th Street in Omaha this morning to unveil the ne design for the new “Choose Life” license plate.
Governor Ricketts says, “This is the first pro-life bill we have passed in the Legislature since 2011. You can see the way we reflect our pro-life values in Nebraska. It is how treat each other with dignity and respect. It is how we give back to our communities of our time, talent and treasure, to our churches and our schools.”
Governor Ricketts says the design of this plate is to inspire hope. It shows a mother and her child walking into a beautiful Nebraska sunrise and it is to symbolize that you are not alone and there is someone there always there for you. This license plate is another way to demonstrate that Nebraska is a pro-life state.
The Legislature passed LB46 this past session that cleared the way for the creation of this plate. LB46 was introduced by State Senator Dan Watermeier of Syracuse. He says, “Today Nebraska takes another important step of showing our deep value and respect for human life through the beautiful “Choose Life” plates we see today. It was an honor for me to introduce LB46, the legislation that created the “Choose Life” plates.” The bill had to overcome six filibusters to pass and Senator Watermeier thanked supporters for a job well done.
The new specialty plates will be available on January 1st. The $5 fee will go toward the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Fund.
