A former North Platte man has been sentenced to slightly more than three years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
The United State Attorney’s Office reports 67-year-old Gale Gibbs has been sentenced to 37 months in prison. Gibbs also has been ordered by federal District Judge Richard Kopf to pay $1,000 in restitution to the victims. He will serve 10 years of supervised release after being released from prison and will be required to register as a sex offender.
A North Platte computer technician contacted the North Platte Police Department after Gibbs took his computer in for repairs. The technician had found thumbnails of images depicting child erotica and child pornography.
After obtaining a search warrant, North Platte police searched Gibb’s residence and seized his laptop computer. A forensic examination of the laptop found nearly 70 images, including 27 images identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as known victims from outside Nebraska.
