A Nebraska State Penitentiary inmate, serving a life sentence for murder, has died.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services reports 68-year-old Michael Juranek died Wednesday evening at a Lincoln hospital, where he was being treated for a long-term medical issue.
Juranek was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 52-year-old Jimmy McBride, his former roommate, in 2011. Juranek was homeless. He stabbed McBride to death on a street in Omaha.
State law requires a grand jury be impaneled to investigate any death of a Nebraska prison inmate.
