Snow removal trucks and plows got a brief workout in Omaha today. They were called to several locations throughout the metro area to apply sand and salt to slick spots due to ice fog.
Omaha Street Maintenance Engineer Austin Rowser says they are taking advantage of mild winter weather by doing some catch up work before the snow flies. Rowser says, “We split our crews into shifts so we have a crew that works overnight and one that works in the morning. We are a little bit more tied due to the noise ordinance at this point in time but we have concrete movers still pouring, potholes we are patching up and cleaning up work orders and making sure everything is ready for snow.”
Rowser says when the snow starts it only takes a few minutes to put the plows and chemical spreaders on the trucks.
