Charges could be filed in a fatal crash in Omaha in which a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing a city street.
Omaha police report 31-year-old Justin Swanson of Omaha died of injuries suffered when a car ran him over as he attempted to cross in the middle of the street.
The car, driven by 27-year-old Esteban Conforte of Omaha, initially fled the scene. Conforte later turned himself in to police.
The accident report says officers responded to an emergency call in the early hours of Thursday. A car westbound on Pacific Street struck a pedestrian attempting to cross mid-block. Emergency crews rushed Swanson to Bergan Mercy Hospital. He suffered a broken arm and leg as well as a head injury.
Police report alcohol use by both contributed to the fatal crash.
An autopsy has been conducted and information has been sent to the Douglas County Attorney’s Office to consider charges in the crash.
Omaha police report this is the 40th motor vehicle homicide the Omaha Police Traffic Unit has investigated in 2017.
