Those heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve should consider indoor events. Van DeWald is the lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Omaha and he says temperatures will be in the deep freeze.
DeWald says, “Sunday night is probably the worst night of it. Low temperatures will probably be down to minus 18 degrees. Wind chills will be 30 to 35 degrees below zero Sunday night so if anyone has any New Year’s Eve plans you may want to consider if there is anything outdoors, you definitely will want to bundle up for that. It looks like we do gradually warm up into early next week by maybe Tuesday into Wednesday we get back into the teens.”
On Sunday, temperatures probably won’t get above the zero mark. DeWald says there is another chance of snowfall over the weekend. We could see another inch or two of accumulation Saturday night into Sunday.
