It is the first work day of 2018 and some are fighting off the post-holiday blues. Many Nebraskans took time off. Omaha career expert Nick Murphy says while some people are looking putting their best foot forward heading back to work, others are dragging their feet.
Murphy says, “There are people that took time off over the holiday and really thought about what they wanted to achieve in 2018. There are the people who were just happy not to be at work. Are you working for your family? Are you trying to get ahead this year? Really be honest with yourself about why you do what you do and try to find some energy within your current situation.”
Murphy says sometimes just readjusting your mindset can go a long way if you are frustrated with your work situation. January is a good time to do that as everyone seems to be a bit more goal oriented right now. For those who just can’t get past that point you may want to consider looking for another job.
Murphy says, “It really is a good time as far as budgets being re-set and companies starting to do more advertising and tell people their story about jobs they have available. My personal answer to anyone feeling that way is always a good time to start. You start by figuring out what it is that you want and what it is that you like and don’t like about your current role.” He says it is important to take your time in your job search. Too many people show their frustration by saying ‘I’m over this” and take the first job that comes along. Murphy says that kind of maneuver will likely end up with you in the same kind of situation one year from now.
