Keeping warm when it is this cold is tough for everyone but it especially difficult when taking care of people in need. One of those places is the Open Door Mission in Omaha and Senior Program Director Steve Frazee says every nook and corner at their facilities is now a bed.
Frazee says, “Our numbers went up to 600. Our bunk house is full and we have a couple of guys sleeping on mats. Over in the Lydia House our overflow area is overflowing. We’ve gotten into our conference rooms and our other rooms are filled as well.”
Frazee says serving 600 people has put a strain on their supplies. He says they are in need of undergarments for both men and women. They are also in need of socks and warm winter boots along with coats, hats and gloves.
Frazee says blankets are also in high demand. He says they like to send blankets with their residents when they find a permanent home so that is something they are always in need of along with pillows and other bedding.
Anyone from out of town that would like to make a donation can do so one of their Family Outreach Centers in Elkhorn, south Omaha, near Eppley Airfield and in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
