A live grenade has been disposed of in Snyder.
The Nebraska State Patrol says members of its bomb squad used counter charges to destroy the grenade in an empty field after determining it was live.
NSP reports says an individual who bought a truck from the family of a deceased individual discovered the grenade in the back-seat Wednesday. The new owners alerted the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, which contacted the patrol.
“This is a great reminder for anyone who comes across anything resembling a grenade or an explosive device to call 911,” Lt. Jim DeFreece, NSP Hazardous Device Coordinator, said in a written statement released by the patrol. “We’ve had people find them when cleaning out storage areas, garages, or in this case a vehicle. The safest thing to do is to avoid touching the device and call the authorities.”
NSP thanked the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance.
