A high-speed chase in western Nebraska ended in a fatal crash in the Panhandle.
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office reports 37-year-old Joseph Roy Anthony Beeler of Mitchell died after losing control of his pick-up and crashing into a tree.
Authorities say the pursuit began late Sunday night after a pick-up was reported traveling west in the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 26 near Mitchell. Officers attempted to pull over the pick-up. The truck traveled at times in the wrong lane of traffic at speeds higher than 95 miles per hour.
When the pick-up entered Scottsbluff it crossed railroad tracks and Beeler lost control of it. The impact of the crash into the tree ejected Beeler from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers joined officers from the Mitchell and Scottsbluff police departments in the pursuit.
