A former officer of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska has been placed on probation for stealing from the tribe’s casino.
The United States Attorney’s office reports 50-year-old Darwin Snyder of Winnebago has been placed on five years’ probation and sentenced to 150 hours of community service by a federal judge. He also has been ordered to pay $36,500 restitution.
Snyder, a former vice chairman of the Winnebago tribal council, began in 2013 to take unauthorized disbursements from the WinnaVegas Casino and Resort. Snyder obtained gift certificates he didn’t pay for as well as made deposits to a re-loaded debit card, totaling $36,500. The Winnebago Tribe never authorized the gift certificates or the deposits. Federal prosecutors say the disbursements were concealed from the Winnebago Gaming Commission.
