Creighton takes the lead in the BIG EAST on the road Saturday to face 10th ranked Xavier. Creighton is 14-3 this year (4-1 BIG EAST) and ranked 25th in the AP poll and 22nd in the USA Today Coaches poll. All three losses have come to teams that were ranked at the time (No. 22 Baylor, No. 15 Gonzaga, No. 23 Seton Hall), but the Bluejays are also one of eight teams nationally with multiple top-25 wins away from home.
Xavier is 3-2 after losses to Providence and Villanova.
“They have played three of their five games on the road and we have played three of our five at home which is pasrt of the reason our record is better” said Creighton coach Greg McDermott. “We know we are going into a snake pit and they will be ready to go.”
A return home, where Xavier is 11-0, could help. The Musketeers already own home wins over the likes of Baylor, Cincinnati, East Tennessee State, Colorado and Butler at Cintas Center this season.
Xavier owns a 13-12 lead in the series with Creighton, including a 7-6 mark in Cincinnati. Eighteen of the 25 meetings have been within five points in the final minute, including the last four.
