The blaze broke out last Thursday morning in the house on Highway 77 near Dakota City.
Initially, investigators said no one was home at the time of the fire, but now they confirm, a body was found inside the demolished structure.
Reports say the body is that of a Native American male. While he hasn’t yet been identified, an autopsy found he died of smoke inhalation.
The Dakota County Sheriff says the homeowner was in Arizona at the time of the fire and reported no one should’ve been inside.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
