Students at the University Of Nebraska College of Dentistry will be busy on Friday giving back to the community. Faculty member Dr. David Brown says the children will travel to Lincoln for their annual Children’s Dental. He says they will provide about $100,000 in free dental care that day alone.
Between 175 and 200 children from Crete, Columbus, Hastings, Grand Island, Fremont, Omaha, Lincoln and several other communities have been pre-screened to receive treatment. Dr. Brown says they will receive fillings, root canals, crowns, cleanings and extractions. Faculty, staff and students are making sure they make this a positive experience for kids and will have a number of educational games and activities for the children, parents and chaperones.
Dr. Brown says, “This provides a really good experience for our students and faculty. It provides service to our community and giving back something to society for their position and the honor of being where they are.”
Since 2001, the College of Dentistry has treated more than 6,000 children and provided services valued at more than $3 million to low income and children in need in the state.
