A prison inmate is hospitalized in Lincoln after being assaulted by a fellow inmate this past weekend.
The Omaha World Herald reports the relatives of Mikael Loyd claim Department of Correctional Services failed to notify them about his assault at the Lincoln Correctional Center Sunday.
His grandmother, Deidra Loyd of Omaha tells the newspaper Loyd suffered multiple stab wounds, including one to the neck she says caused massive blood loss.
Loyd is serving 30 to 35 years for the murder of his former girlfriend in 2013.
Deidra Loyd says she heard about the injury to her grandson from one of his friends. She says she called prison authorities who confirmed it.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the incident.
