Be extra careful on the roads. A number of accidents have been reported in the last few hours as a snow system moves through the state. Cathy Zapotocny is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service and says this storm system will drop upwards of two inches of snowfall across most of Nebraska with higher amounts to the northeast.
Zapotocny says much of Nebraska is seeing some amount of snowfall today. There is a problem with blowing snow in open areas from central Nebraska east. This is a light snow so blowing may cause visibility issues. Some areas of central Nebraska received sleet prior to the snowfall.
This is round one of two. Zapotocny says, “We have another area of a little bit of light snow that will move through Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening and the brunt of that one will fall to the south of the Lincoln and Omaha areas. Right now the next couple of hours will be moving through and the next batch will move in tomorrow.”
There is another heads-up for those planning travel in the Omaha area. Omaha Police are on accident alert and are no longer responding to accidents unless there is an injury. Drivers involved in fender benders are asked to exchange information and fill out an accident report at a later date.
