A citizen of Mexico who used fraudulent documents to pose as a U.S. citizen in Nebraska has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for Social Security fraud.
After 37-year-old Anastacio Cruz-Santiago, who lived in Madison, serves his prison sentence, he will be deported, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Federal prosecutors say Cruz-Santiago is a citizen of the Mexico and does not have proper permission or authority to reside in or be employed in the United States.
Cruz-Santiago in July of 2016 used the Social Security number of another person, only identified with the initials C.B., to work at Packer’s Sanitation in Madison. Cruz-Santiago used the Social Security number on his employment documentation. Cruz-Santiago also lied about being a United States citizen on his application for employment, according to federal prosecutors.
The Department of Homeland Security investigated the case.
