A 32-year-old Lincoln man who had sent a suicidal text to a friend jumped to his death off a bridge over Interstate 80, landing on the windshield of an eastbound semi tractor-trailer.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies rushed to the scene, beneath the 84th Street overpass, late Friday evening after a motorist had called to report a semi had gone off the road.
Sheriff Terry Wagner says Lincoln police had been looking for the man since he send a friend a suicidal text. The man has not been identified.
Wagner reports the truck driver was unconscious when deputies arrived. The driver told deputies he thought he had hit a man.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man apparently jumped from the overpass and landed on the windshield of the truck which was traveling east on I-80. The impact caused the truck to veer off into a ditch. It came to a stop when it hit a fence.
The impact killed the man. The truck driver suffered cuts to his face and a broken sternum.
