Two of the four people who died in an early morning accident on Interstate 80 near York have been identified while authorities confirm icy conditions that morning combined with speed led to the fatal crash.
The York County Sheriff’s Office reports the driver of a pick-up traveling east on I-80 Tuesday morning lost control of the truck and crossed the median into on-coming traffic westbound on the interstate. A semi tractor-trailer crashed into the pick-up, killing all four onboard. The truck driver was not injured.
The sheriff’s office identified the driver of the pick-up as 39-year-old Mario Alberto Suarez Garcia of Edgewater, Colorado. The female passenger in the pick-up was 32-year-old Alejandra Arellano Galaz of Hastings.
Two other men killed in the crash have not been identified. The sheriff’s office reports it has been difficult to locate their next of kin to inform them of their deaths.
All four died immediately from the impact of the collision which occurred shortly after 7 o’clock Tuesday morning between the Utica and Waco exits on I-80.
