Governor Pete Ricketts says the invitation to the National Rifle Association to hold their annual convention in Nebraska stands. Governor Ricketts says he extended the invitation after a Dallas city official last week suggested the NRA move their convention in May to another location due to recent criticism. He says that was a wonderful opportunity to invite a huge convention to come to our state and show the group what Nebraska has to offer. It is centrally located with many sportsmen and sportswomen, hosts gun shows and supports our constitutional right to bear arms.
Governor Ricketts says, “I have talked to them. They are planning on continuing forward with their plans to hold their convention in Dallas. They say they plan these things out several years in advance. Again, I think this is an opportunity for us to see if this is something we can host in Nebraska. It would be a great opportunity for us to show off our state.”
Governor Ricketts says it was good to put a bug in their ear that the organization would be welcome here and hopefully consider Nebraska in their future plans.
Ricketts is a gun owner and a member of the NRA.
