Bars will be busy on Saturday with St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness events but remember never drink and drive. Law enforcement across Nebraska is planning extra enforcements and will be watching for intoxicated drivers.
La Vista Police Captain Bryan Waugh says they want the message spread and are turning to news outlets and social media to let drivers know they are watching carefully. He says, “Our ultimate goal is not enforcement. Our ultimate goal is to make sure we don’t have any serious injury, fatality car crashes as the result of a drunk driver. Often times when somebody knows that there will be extra enforcement out there, their decision making will be influenced to make better decisions.”
Captain Waugh says their goal is to promote contacting an Uber, calling a cab or designating a driver.
Anytime a holiday falls over a weekend there is more of a chance that people will head to bars. Captain Waugh say whenever St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday they will focus more attention on getting extra officers out there so they can intervene before something bad happens.
