Nebraska Supreme Court Justice John Wright has died after a lengthy illness.
Wright was 72.
Chief Justice Mike Heavican made the announcement in a news release, stating the announcement of the death deeply saddened the justices of the Nebraska Supreme Court.
“He was a much-loved member of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals. His loss leaves a great void as our longest serving, most experienced member of the bench,” Heavican said in a written statement.
Wright had served a total of 24 years. Wright joined the Nebraska Supreme Court in 1994 after serving on the Court of Appeals for three years.
Wright had a private law practice in Scottsbluff for 21 years before being appointed as a judge of the appellate court.
