A young farther of five has been killed in Lincoln’s first homicide of the year.
Police officers swarmed to 47th Street and Cooper Avenue, near the campus of Union College shortly before two o’clock, responding to a shooting and a car accident.
Few details have been released.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports family members identified the victim as 22-year-old Edgar “E.J.” Union Jr.
Reporter William Padmore with Nebraska Radio Network affiliate KLIN says he heard a woman wailing outside her house, repeating, “They killed my boy. They killed my boy,” after he arrived at the scene.
The Lincoln Police Department issued a statement via Twitter:
Officers are continuing to investigate the scene at 47th Cooper. This incident does not appear to be a random act and we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public.
Nearby schools went into lockdown during the incident.
