A grand jury will investigate the circumstances leading to the death of a 62-year-old psychiatrist, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff with police.
Lincoln police report Dr. Subramanyam Rajagopal was found dead inside his home in south Lincoln this past weekend.
Officers responded to the home early Saturday evening after someone called to report Rajagopal had assaulted a 61-year-old woman inside the home. Rajagopal is also said to have threatened a 28-year-old woman and then a 22-year-old man.
Police closed high-traffic Nebraska 2 from 33rd to 48th Streets in Lincoln as negotiations began. Police report several hours later gunshots were heard coming from the house, with a final gunshot heard shortly after 11pm.
No officer fired during the standoff, according to police.
State law requires a grand jury be empaneled to review any death which occurs when law enforcement is involved.
