Lincoln police are investigating whether the shooting death of a 22-year-old near the campus of Union College Monday afternoon was gang related.
Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister describes the scene when police arrived as “very chaotic.” Officers found Edgar “E.J.” Union shot in the neck. He died shortly after police and emergency crews arrived.
Bliemeister tells reporters during a media briefing that many of the people involved in the altercation had gang affiliations.
An autopsy has been ordered. Investigators continue to process the scene and to conduct interviews.
Bliemeister says a number of people had gathered prior to the shooting; adding those involved knew each other.
No one has been arrested, though a number of “persons of interest” have been identified.Subtitles
