An 8-year-old Omaha boy has died of injuries suffered when he was struck by a school bus.
The Omaha Police Department reports emergency crews rushed Haji Mohamed to Nebraska Medicine in extremely critical condition. Haji was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
According to the department, the school bus stopped along Sprague Street just east of 22nd Street in Omaha around 5 o’clock Monday afternoon at a designated student drop-off location. Several students got off the bus. The bus driver continued her route westbound on Sprague.
As the bus drove between 22nd and 23rd Streets, Haji – who had just gotten off the bus – attempted to run across Sprague Street in front of the bus, but the bus struck him.
Haji was a second-grade student at Springville Elementary School in Omaha.
The collision remains under investigation.
