Douglas County authorities have decided not to file charges against the school bus driver who ran over and killed an 8-year-old boy who darted in front of the bus Monday afternoon.
33-year-old driver Ashleigh Avant had just dropped Springville Elementary school children off when second-grader Haji Mohamed ran across Sprague Street between 22nd and 23rd Streets in front of the bus.
The bus hit Mohamed, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says the police investigation uncovered nothing to indicate criminal intent on the part of the driver. Part of the investigation includes surveillance video from a residence in the neighborhood.
Avant has been a bus driver for Student Transportation of America for four years.
