An Omaha police officer is on desk duty while an investigation is underway involving an accusation of sexual assault. Last February, Officer Gregory Lemons stopped and cited a 25 year old woman for DUI. Days later she reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office that Lemons had contacted her on social media and that she had been sexually assaulted.
Douglas County Prosecutor Don Kleine is now looking into the issue to see if any charges will be filed. He says, “You have a person who had just arrested somebody and will be a witness against that person and that would be something that would be totally improper.”
Kleine says they are looking carefully at the evidence now and will determine if there is enough evidence to charge Lemons with a crime.
Sheriff’s officials contacted the Omaha police department and Lemons was placed on administrative leave. He is back at work but in a position where he has no contact with the public. The department does not have a policy in place regarding relationships between officers and suspects.
