Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez is expected to join the Omaha Storm Chasers on Thursday, moving from Double-A Northwest Arkansas as part of his MLB rehab assignment.
Perez sprained the medial collateral in his left knee while carrying a suitcase up the stairs in his home on March 28.
His full expected recovery time is 4-6 weeks. Tests revealed a Grade 2 sprain with a minor tear of the ligament, but no surgery was needed.
Perez has been selected as an AL All-Star each of the last five seasons, is a four-time recipient of the Gold Glove award, and was named MVP of the 2015 World Series.
Perez last played in Omaha in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, posting a .337 batting average in 24 total appearances, hitting one home run and 17 RBIs.
The Storm Chasers will play a doubleheader against the Memphis Redbirds at Werner Park beginning at 5:05 p.m. CT on Thursday.
