Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a traffic stop Friday morning around 12:30 a.m. when they saw a pedestrian straddling the bridge over the I-680 and West Maple Road. Deputies noticed this person may be suffering from a mental health crisis and cleared the traffic stop and approached the person.
The pedestrian did not speak with deputies who continued to ask him questions. A second deputy was able to maneuver himself behind the man and pull him to safety. The man later admitted he planned on committing suicide and was just about to make a phone call before jumping. The man was taken into emergency protective custody for his safety.
